As worldwide oil and gas reserves fall and exploration moves into new, uncharted territory, the ability to acquire the data needed to accurately pick well locations is becoming more and more difficult. 2D and 3D seismic is relied upon heavily by E&P companies to reduce risk and ultimately pinpoint where additional reserves may be identified. Also, as the energy sector begins to explore in emerging countries/markets worldwide, seismic data is generally the prerequisite issued by local governments as a condition of license approval.
